Kristen West McGuire is a freelance writer and former Methodist seminarian. Her conversion began at Georgetown University, class of 1987, where the Jesuits did teach enough doctrine to find God, in the poorest of the poor, no less. She entered the urban ministry program at Wesley Theological Seminary. During a grueling chaplaincy internship at a mental institution, she read the Bible, and pondered Mother Teresa's example. Her Roman Catholic husband, Daniel, brought her to Mass, where, eventually, it dawned on her that Jesus was Incarnate upon the altar! Wow!

Wow...

wow... so then what?

She resolved to finish her degree (M.Div., 1991) and ponder.

Daniel was her sponsor at the Easter Vigil in 1992 at the Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside, California. She now preaches as a writer.

Over the years, the wonderful members of the Women's Apostolate for Youth, a lay association of the faithful in the Diocese of Arlington, VA, under the direction of Dr. Robin Maas, have provided formation, support and encouragement.

Fast forward to 2008: There are eight McGuire children, with ages ranging from high school on down. Dan is now a retired Marine, just completed his Ph.D. in theology at Marquette University, and has secured a job at the University of Great Falls in Great Falls, Montana. Yes, they homeschool some of the kids, but punted for high school. Kristen's passions still include social justice; however, she spends most of her time navigating mild learning differences (special needs) and children's activities (sports and music). She believes in encouraging women of all vocations, teaches fifth grade CCD in her local parish, and is a firm believer in the value of "radiation therapy" (holy hours).

Kristen and her husband Daniel do give talks at parishes and conferences. More information is available on the speaking gigs page.  If you'd like to contact her on other matters, click here.   Like St. Paul, she's pretty sure there is merit in keeping on keeping on.  Better keep praying, y'all.
