St. Teresa Benedicta, Pray for Us!
Here are a few items that worked really well for my kids with mild dyslexia and dysgraphia:
AUDIBLOX
This is a program that is very time intensive. If you have little ones, you will need to arrange for one-on-one time with your student. But...it is worth it. The program helps with auditory memory, visual memory, hand-eye coordination, and a host of other crucial elements to reading beyond phonics. Especially if your student is getting frustrated...this might be the answer!
Math - U - See We are HUGE Math-U-See fans. Even if math is not your subject, by staying one lesson ahead of the kids, you can understand what you are teaching, and teach it competently and in a way that incorporates all learning styles. I can't emphasize strongly enough how important it is for special kids to enjoy some success in math early on.

Auditory, Visual, Kinesthetic, Oral
There are a number of good programs that you can purchase at AVKO. Sequential Spelling is excellent for dyslexics once they can write comofrtably, and the Typing Program was written as a "clandestine" course in spelling for adult dyslexics. If they follow the directions, their fingers will learn how to type the words with many fewer reversals. (This one is not a kid-pleaser, but it works!) |
